Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Textigo. By installing or using Textigo, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the application.

1. About Textigo

Textigo is an SMS scam-warning application for Android. Textigo is a product of Protectiv IT Security Inc.

It works in the background and analyzes incoming SMS messages directly on your device. When Textigo detects a message that may be suspicious or fraudulent, it can display a warning.

Textigo is a security assistance tool. It does not replace your mobile network, messaging application, bank, government agency, law-enforcement authority, or professional security advice.

2. Eligibility

You must be legally permitted to use Textigo and capable of agreeing to these Terms.

If you are a minor, you may use Textigo only with the consent and supervision required by applicable law.

3. SMS Access

Textigo requires permission to receive incoming SMS events so that it can analyze new messages.

Textigo does not use the READ_SMS permission and cannot scan your existing SMS inbox.

Textigo does not send SMS messages, reply to messages, delete messages, or modify messages on your behalf.

You may revoke Textigo's SMS permission at any time through Android Settings. Doing so will prevent Textigo from performing its primary detection function.

4. Scam Detection

Textigo uses automated and machine-learning-based methods to identify potentially suspicious messages.

No detection system is perfect. Textigo may:

  • fail to identify a scam or malicious message;
  • incorrectly warn you about a legitimate message; or
  • produce a different result after its detection model is updated.

A Textigo warning is informational and should not be treated as a guarantee that a message is fraudulent.

Likewise, the absence of a warning does not guarantee that a message is legitimate or safe.

You remain responsible for deciding whether to trust, respond to, act on, or otherwise interact with any SMS message.

5. Reporting Messages

Textigo allows you to voluntarily report a message as clean or malicious.

When you submit a report, the full text of the selected message is sent to our service together with your selected classification and the detection model version.

Reports do not intentionally include the sender's address. However, the message itself may contain personal or sensitive information, including names, account details, reference numbers, transaction amounts, or other information included by the sender.

You are responsible for reviewing a message before submitting it.

By submitting a report, you authorize us to process and use that report for legitimate purposes related to Textigo, including:

  • investigating incorrect detections;
  • improving and evaluating scam detection;
  • training or retraining detection models;
  • identifying scam patterns; and
  • maintaining reporting and community features.

Do not knowingly submit false, misleading, manipulated, unlawful, or unrelated reports.

6. Pseudonymous Identity

Textigo may generate a cryptographic identity and pseudonymous nickname for your installation.

This allows the service to authenticate reports and provide features such as the leaderboard without requiring a traditional account, email address, or password.

You are responsible for protecting any identity backup you export. Anyone who obtains a usable copy of your backup may be able to submit reports using your Textigo identity.

7. Acceptable Use

You may use Textigo only for lawful purposes.

You must not:

  • interfere with or disrupt Textigo or its supporting services;
  • attempt to bypass security, authentication, rate limits, or technical restrictions;
  • submit automated, fraudulent, or intentionally misleading reports;
  • use Textigo to violate the rights of another person;
  • impersonate another Textigo installation or user;
  • reverse engineer or tamper with Textigo where prohibited by applicable law;
  • attempt to extract or reverse engineer the machine learning model used by Textigo;
  • distribute modified versions of Textigo in a way that falsely suggests they are official; or
  • use Textigo or its services to conduct unlawful activity.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to prohibit legitimate, good-faith security research conducted in accordance with applicable law and our published security reporting process.

8. Security Research

We welcome responsible security research.

If you discover a potential vulnerability in Textigo, please report it responsibly to security@protectiv.ph.

Do not exploit a vulnerability to access data that does not belong to you, disrupt the service, harm other users, or exceed what is reasonably necessary to demonstrate the issue.

Responsible reports made in good faith will be reviewed by our security team.

9. Privacy

Your use of Textigo is also governed by the Textigo Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy explains what information Textigo processes, what remains on your device, what may be transmitted to our servers, how information is protected, and your privacy rights.

If there is a conflict between these Terms and the Privacy Policy concerning how personal data is processed, the Privacy Policy will govern that processing.

10. Updates

We may update Textigo to improve security, detection accuracy, compatibility, performance, or functionality.

Detection models may also be updated over time.

Some updates may be necessary for Textigo to continue operating securely or correctly. Older versions may eventually stop receiving support or access to certain online features.

11. Availability

We aim to keep Textigo available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Textigo may become temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, technical problems, network conditions, operating-system changes, security incidents, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue a feature when reasonably necessary.

12. Third-Party Services

SMS messages analyzed by Textigo originate from third parties and telecommunications networks. We do not control their content, delivery, accuracy, or availability.

Textigo may also interact with operating-system or network services necessary for the application to function.

We are not responsible for the content or conduct of third parties merely because Textigo analyzes or displays information associated with them.

13. Intellectual Property

Textigo, including its software, branding, design, detection technology, documentation, and other original materials, is owned by or licensed to the provider and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

These Terms give you permission to use Textigo for its intended purpose. They do not transfer ownership of Textigo or its intellectual property to you.

Any open-source components, if applicable, remain subject to their respective licenses.

Textigo retains all rights, title, and interest in its detection models, model parameters, algorithms, software, improvements, and other technology developed or improved through the operation of Textigo, including through the use of submitted reports.

Submitting a report does not grant the reporter any ownership, intellectual property rights, royalties, or other proprietary interest in Textigo's models, model parameters, algorithms, software, improvements, or other technology.

Where permitted by applicable law, deletion or withdrawal of a submitted report does not require Textigo to delete, retrain, reverse, or modify a model that was previously trained using that report.

14. No Guarantee of Protection

Textigo is designed to reduce the risk of SMS scams, but it cannot detect every scam, phishing attempt, fraudulent message, social-engineering technique, or future attack.

You should continue to exercise caution with unexpected messages, requests for money or credentials, verification codes, links, and messages creating urgency or pressure.

Textigo does not guarantee prevention of fraud, financial loss, account compromise, identity theft, or other harm.

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the provider will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or similar damages arising from your use of or inability to use Textigo.

This includes losses resulting from reliance on a detection result, failure to detect a malicious message, incorrect classification of a legitimate message, actions taken in response to an SMS message, or interruption of the service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under Philippine law.

16. Suspension or Termination

We may restrict access to online Textigo services when reasonably necessary to protect users, prevent abuse, comply with law, or protect the security and integrity of the service.

You may stop using Textigo at any time by uninstalling the application.

Provisions that by their nature should continue after termination, including intellectual-property provisions and applicable limitations of liability, will continue to apply.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms when Textigo, our services, or applicable legal requirements change.

Material changes will be published with a revised effective date and, where appropriate, communicated through the application.

Where applicable law requires additional consent for a change, we will request it before the change becomes binding.

18. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without prejudice to rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.

Any dispute relating to Textigo will be handled in accordance with applicable Philippine law and the jurisdiction of the appropriate Philippine courts or authorities.
